Pledge your support to give young carers a chance to be young
“It can sometimes be hard to fit all my chores and school work into one day. I love my mum and am glad I can help her out, but it would be nice to sometimes have some time to myself to do what I want and have fun with people my own age.”

Yorkshire Evening Post recently featured an interview with a young carer, Scarlett, who spoke of her life as a carer and the daily challenges she faces.
There are estimated to be 4,000 young carers in Leeds who, because of their caring responsibilities, don’t have the same chance as other children to enjoy their childhood. Their educational and social development can be significantly affected, as well as their mental health and wellbeing.
We plan to raise £4,000 by the end of the year to allow over 200 children to experience a trip away – a week’s holiday, a weekend away or a day trip for a young carer to unwind, take a break from their responsibilities and enjoy spending time with other young carers in a different setting in 2016.
What your donation buys:
- £10 will buy two meals for a child while they’re away
- £25 will cover the costs of two children’s return train tickets
- £40 will cover the petrol for a day trip out into the countryside
- £75 will pay for 10 children to go to an activity holiday centre
- £150 will pay for 6 children to have a night’s accommodation
- £300 will cover the costs of hiring go-carts for 30 children
- £500 will pay for the room hire, disco and food for a summer and Christmas party for 30 children
It’s really important for children who have caring responsibilities to take a break and have the chance to play, socialise, and spend time with other children.
Your contribution will not only give that child good memories, but will play a part in helping secure that child a healthy, happy and long life.
To say thanks for your contribution for supporting Leeds young carers, we wanted to give you some fantastic rewards!
Due to the generosity of a few Leeds based amateur photographers, your rewards will include beautiful images of the amazing places, people and buildings that define the great city of Leeds.
The images have been taken as part of Leeds Community Foundation’s ‘My Leeds in Focus’ photography competition, which highlights the images and stories that represent what local community means to local people.
