Q and A with Change Grow Live
Change, Grow, Live works with various groups across Leeds that are affected by various issues such as drugs, homelessness and antisocial behaviour. The charity tells us more…
Could you tell us what your Leeds Community Foundation Project involves?
The Leeds Street Outreach Service works with people who are rough sleeping, at risk of rough sleeping and who beg, to move away from the streets and access appropriate support services.
Project workers aim to engage with people through assertive outreach and can support with accessing, questions or concerns about various issues such as accommodation.
Why is this support so vital, and what would happen if this support didn’t exist?
We can only offer service users this type of support IF we have been able to secure funds, this can be lengthy process and there are times we haven’t been able to support a service user due to a lack of funding. By offering immediate support such as a cup of coffee, a travel ticket or a mobile phone we have been able to empower service users to make changes.
Can you share a rewarding moment from the project?
An example of the support we have provided is that of a young male who was found rough sleeping last December. We were able to provide immediate support and since that time he has moved forward with his life, reconnected with his family and made great strides.
What made you apply for a Foundation grant and what difference has this funding made?
Funding is tremendously important for our service, the biggest benefit has been being able to offer service users immediate support. By providing a cup of coffee, a travel ticket or a mobile phone we have been able to empower service users to make changes and positive choices.
