Wesleyan Foundation Small Grants
The Wesleyan Foundation was established in 2017.
Grants will be considered from charities, constituted voluntary and community groups that focus on:
- Education – Charities or projects that enhance learning and develop career opportunities.
- Health – Promote health and wellbeing.
- Social – Provide local solutions to meet local needs, promote community cohesion and develop sustainable and supportive communities.
Grants of up to £2,000 are available and must be spent within a year.
Grants are available in Leeds.
We Will Fund
- Groups that have been running for at least 2 years.
- Salary, equipment or volunteer costs that are clearly budgeted and only used for the project – evidence will be required.
- Grants can be made for a wide range of purposes including consumables, project or activity costs.
- No more than 10% of the project costs can be assigned to operational/core costs.
- Your application value must be no more than 20% of the organisation’s annual income.
- Your organisation’s income level must less than £250,000, as shown in your most recent annual accounts.
You can apply to this fund if you are one of the following:
- Registered charities
- Constituted Community groups
- Companies Limited by Guarantee with charitable aims
- Community Interest Companies
- Co-operatives – registered Community Benefit Societies and registered Industrial and Provident Societies
- Social Enterprises
**Funding to Community Interest Companies and other non-charities may include conditions to restrict funding to charitable objectives only.
Please note, we are unable to fund the following:
- Individuals or sole traders
- Arts and media focussed projects
- Sports clubs and societies (unless the project benefits disabled people)
- Contact sports such as boxing
- Capital Builds
- Direct replacement of statutory obligations and public funding
- Promotion of religious or political activities
- Groups with significant financial free reserves
- Organisations or charities which are solely to promote any particular religion
- Organisations who have indicated poor management of any previous grants or who present poor financial health
- Payment of deficit funding or repayment of loans
- Animal welfare, unless the project benefits people (e.g. disabled riding schemes)
- Statutory work in educational institutions
- Pure sponsorship purposes or funding purely for costs of fund-raising events
Additional Supporting Information
To be eligible to apply you must be able to provide proof of:
- Your organisation / company has a management committee / board of trustees / board of directors with at least 3 unrelated people as members, a list of those directors will be required showing who has bank authorisation.
- A written constitution / articles / set of rules.
- A copy of your most recent annual accounts or financial records showing your organisation’s balance of funds, income and reserves.
- A bank account in the name of the organisation with at least two unrelated signatories
- A bank statement from the last 3 months
- Copies of your safeguarding/policy (if you will be working with children or vulnerable adults)
- Equal opportunities policy
- Quotes for capital items over £300
When can you apply?
The deadline to apply is 12 noon on 06/06/2019. Funding will be awarded in July / August 2019.
How do you apply for a grant?
To apply you need to complete an online application form available by clicking the Apply Now button to the left of this page. You will also need to submit a signed copy of the organisation’s governance document, signed copy of accounts, and list of name and addresses of management committee/board members. Copies of safeguarding policy documents will be requested if applicable.
We expect this programme to be highly oversubscribed so we strongly recommend you also seek alternative sources of funding for your project to avoid disappointment.
If you’re successful, you’ll also need to sign a funding agreement document and provide a signed copy of your organisation’s most recent bank statement.

What happens after you’ve applied?
We will acknowledge the receipt of your application. We will then assess your application and may need to contact you and your referee during this time. If your application is shortlisted, it will then be submitted to an awards panel for further consideration. We’ll tell you their decision as soon as possible after they’ve met.
If you are successful, the grant letter/e-mail will include any additional conditions set by the panel and/or the grant payment and a grant funding agreement you will need to sign. The grant must be spent within 12 months of the date of our letter confirming the grant. You must also complete an end of grant report telling us how the grant has been spent and what was achieved. The deadline for doing so will be specified in your offer letter. Please note that failure to provide appropriate monitoring information will exclude your organisation from applying to future grants schemes.
If your bid is not successful, we will let you know the reasons for declining it. Please note we have limited funding available and we are not able to fund every application we receive, no matter how deserving the project is. The decisions made by the grants panel are final.
If your application is successful, you will be required to credit support from the Insert Funding Partner and Leeds Community Foundation, on all materials related to the funded work. Successful projects will be required to be available for a potential monitoring visit from funders.
